Sanja Marusic

Sanja Marušić is a Dutch-Croatian artist based in Amsterdam. Her practice emanates from photography and moves towards painting and collage techniques in a multidisciplinary approach.

Sanja Marušić travels the world to create otherworldly images. Through photography, she captures miniature performances in which a human figure (usually Marušić herself), moves strangely through sunburned moonscapes. The artist practices a handcrafted and total approach. She makes her costumes, manipulates her images, paints and frames them. She creates a new unreal and color-saturated world.

In this total artistic approach, her body displays a narrative of her daily life. The intimate, the couple, motherhood, solitude and other personnal experiences are main themes in her work.

  • In 2020, she signed the 11th artistic carte blanche of the Pernod Ricard group dedicated to supporting the contemporary scene, programmed by Paris Photo.

  • Numerous international exhibitions, including recent solo shows at Paradiso, Amsterdam (2021), Standard Vision, Los Angeles (2021) and at the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam (2019).
